I was just tuning through the TV dial around 11 AM Wednesday, when I stopped on CHCH, which was supposed to be showing My Three Sons. The audio was there, as usual. But what was displayed on the screen in an endless freeze frame was the picture below, an actor apparently portraying a dead body from a previous show.
I have no idea how long this has been going on, but it's been there for at least half an hour as of this posting. It's certainly a strange glitch and it couldn't be a more unfortunate image for their comedy block! I wonder how it happened and why no one has fixed it.

Just checked and it's continued on during Bonanza at noon.

Finally fixed as of 12:13 PM. No explanation of what happened.

Interesting. What happened when it went to ads? Was the screen frozen for that too?

As far as I know, nothing changed regardless of what was being programmed.

I would be interested to know if it was the same on over the air vs cable. Most cable/dish feeds are fibre fed vs grabbing OTA signals. It is possible the issue could have been on the cable headend vs the CHCH side which OTA viewers get direct from their Master Control.

I was watching OTA so I have no idea what cable viewers saw, but I suspect it originated at the station and was what everyone saw. I tried it on two different sets, just to be sure my DVR wasn't glitching. It was fine.

I think CHCH's master control is based in Toronto at Channel Zero HQ, so there is a good chance it was between there and the transmitter in Hamilton then. So many places of possible failure. I think only CHCH News is really controlled from Hamilton anymore.

Checked the rewind today on Bell Fibe for both My Three Sons and Bonanza. No dead guy.

So does that mean it was only on their OTA feed? How did that happen?

OTA Tx path is clearly different than whatever they send to Fibe (and likely others). I assume Bell doesn't have any facilities in Hamilton that are setup to receive this OTA, so perhaps they receive CHCH via satellite?

I remember 10 years ago when they accidentally showed porn during one of their newscasts. Though I think that was only on the cable feed.

I PVR The Andy Griffith Show weekdays at 11a on Bell Fibe. I watched Wednesday's episode and everything was normal.
It was a good one. Town drunk Otis decided to buy a car. Hilarity ensued.

I suppose this shows just how much attention those at CHCH pay to the over-the-air signal. Certainly, cable and satellite are the main ways most people get Channel 11 these days. How else to explain how it went out that way for so long seemingly without anyone there noticing?

They are moving into their new building across the street. I wonder if something happened on the technical side when this occurred. The new facility is pretty impressive from the outside, a big improvement from the old building on Jackson St. West downtown Hamilton. They will have a nice modern plant with new equipment very soon.
