Moses Znaimer's ZoomerMedia Takes Over blogTO

Talk about the Odd Couple. A company that specializes in reaching a decidedly older demo is going after a much younger one. The owner of AM740 and Classical 96.3 has acquired the company that owns blogTO, putting that online publication in the hands of the former City TV owner.

"Zoomer Radio and Classical FM already bring local news and life to the older demo,"[Moses Znaimer notes in a statement.] "blogTO does that for the younger cohorts. Together they make a complete offering, for the public as well as the advertiser."

I've talked to many people who worked for Moses in his City TV days and they've told me he was very insistent on having things done exactly his way.
The founder of blogTO is making all the right statements about what a great development this is, but you have to wonder what the younger staffers who work there and contribute to the site will think about this eccentric - and considerably older man - taking over their workplace.

More here.

Long-time AM 740 listeners are well aware that the broadcaster is chasing the next demographic with regular programming changes; ie. five o'clock Frank gone, the Big Band show gone, Fifties at Five gone, Saturday night oldies programmed by artificial intelligence, etc etc

Let's keep this thread alive to the weekend and then discuss their Saturday night Oldies program & compare that to Gene Stevens "Vintage Favorites" on Sunday afternoon

"How so?" should be self-explanatory at those times, but am open to your analysis     Looking forward, in fact

Fair enough!

I wonder if they'll go by "MZ Media" from now on? You can't very easily attract advertisers for younger demographics with a name like Zoomer.

You'd be surprised.

Impossible task for this station. The original concept of the Zoomer made a lot of sense: bundling together enough assets targeting 55+ to convince advertisers to think beyond the flawed 25-54 agency obsession. But the audience never replenished with time, and now they'd just love to have some 55-year-olds listening.

Their latest ad campaign for 740 using kids testifying about how they love The Rolling Stones, etc only gave off the message of "Oh great, Q107, but on AM"

What they're gong to do with blogTO, I have no idea. Didn't see that one coming.

Ha! Well I'll be damned.
Still, they may have an easier time convincing the advertising community with a name change.
