Ralph Emery passes away at 88

Legendary country broadcaster and Country Hall of Famer passed away peacefully earlier this morning, according to his family.

He sure was good. Smooth, natural, great pipes. One of his wives was Skeeter Davis.

What a great career he had!

Always enjoyed his insights and interviews,

He said one moment of out of many he treasured was being invited into the control room on the night of Thursday, March 6th 1958 to witness the Everly brothers record "All I Have To Do Is Dream"

Rest in peace Mr. Emery

Re: Ralph Emery passes away at 88

Here's a story I'd never heard before about Ralph Emery and his feud with The Byrds, of all groups. It happened after Roger McGuinn and company appeared on The Grand Ol' Opry and then Emery's show on WSM. He wasn't impressed with either performance and blatantly told them so.

"No recordings or transcripts have surfaced of either the Opry or WSM appearances, so there’s little way of knowing whether it’s true that Emery actually told them on-air, and not just off-, just how bad he thought their music was. But the events certainly made a lasting impression on all parties."

The Byrds' Graham Parsons later wrote an insulting song mentioning the famous DJ, and it proved they weren't too impressed with him, either. Both sides made peace many years later during an appearance on Emery's cable show, a moment forever enshrined on YouTube.

This is the song that Gram Parsons and Roger M wrote after their experience with Emery. Gram was gone by the time the song was released on the "Dr Byrd and Mr Hyde album." The album was a mixed bag of psychedelia, country rock and more while as their previous album "Sweetheart of The Rodeo " was Gram and The Byrds attempt at recording a pure county rock album.
