Yankees Announcer Passes Tom Cheek For Ironman Radio Record

The late, great Blue Jay announcer Tom Cheek was famous for his ironman streak of calling more than 4,300 Toronto games, without ever missing a single one. He's finally been surpassed this season by the longtime voice of the Yankees play-by-play man John Sterling, who has done fewer regular season games but more playoff contests. Both are mentioned in this story from New York's Newsday:

Yankees broadcaster John Sterling has an amazing streak going

They mention him in the article, but point out that the record is based on consecutive games without ever missing one. When Scully used to do the NBC Game of the Week, he wasn't on the Dodger broadcast, which is what cost him the ironman title.

I always wanted to do a take off on the X-Files, where Fox Mulder asks Scully what to make of their latest case, only it turns out to be Vin, not Dana. "Well, Mulder, I think that UFO, which was just called up from one of the minor league galaxies, missed the plate by a wide margin and now they'll have to do it again..."
