Case in point - The Roy Green Show Sunday afternoon on the Corus Radio Network. The final segment, from roughly 4:45 PM -4:56 PM, failed to come back out of the spots on GNR640, leaving the station with a gigantic 10-12 minutes of completely dead air.
I'm kind of surprised it happened - isn't there a silent alarm that goes off to alert someone that the station is effectively off the air? And isn't some sort of automated filler supposed to air after the pause goes on too long? Whatever happened, that's one of the longest periods of nothing I've ever heard on local radio.
I turned on CHML to make sure it wasn't at the source, and the show was still airing there.
Automation saves money for stations, but there's always value in having someone around. Guess there weren't any "someone's" there on Sunday afternoon.
