The BBC is getting ready to mark a century of broadcasting, first on radio and then on TV, with a ton of special programming on both media. 

In addition to special episodes of shows like Dr. Who, Top Gear, Master Chef and more, there will be documentaries about the Beeb's impact on British society and celebrating its own broadcast history. The radio side will feature concerts, documentaries and comedy programs, and even the BBC's kids channel is getting into the act with a host of shows aimed at the younger crowd. 

Among the shows in the works (from the BBC's website)

-BBC: A Very British History will trace the impact of the BBC on British life across recent decades.

-The BBC’s First 50 Years (w/t) John Bridcut will look at the challenges and triumphs of today’s BBC, which have their roots in the Corporation’s first half century. The two part feature-length documentary will look at John Reith’s launch of BBC Radio in 1922."

-Radio 3 programmes across the year will be marking The Sonic Century, exploring the impact of 100 years of radio and the audio revolution it unleashed. 

-On Radio 4 Past Forward, featuring historian Greg Jenner, will use a random date generator to alight somewhere in the BBC's vast archive. He will find a piece of audio from that day and use it as a starting point in a journey towards the future.

And that's just a partial list. The real question is how much of this will cross the pond and whether we'll be able to see any of it here. The BBC's radio stuff is usually available online and not geoblocked. But even with a VPN, it's much more difficult to access the network's TV properties. I'm hoping BBC Canada or BBC America will import some of it, but until it actually airs, I suppose we won't really know.
