    The First Avenger Dies

    I know our new admin said obits are welcome, but no one here wants to overdo them. Still, this one seems especially poignant and could easily be overlooked because, despite being something of a cult figure, he's been out of the spotlight for so long.  Patrick Macnee, the bowler hat wearing non-gun toting spy of the 60s-era TV classic "The Avengers," died of natural causes on Thursday. The show became one of the first British series to play regularly in North America, and it's likely still being rerun somewhere today.

    And I've been watching him a minimum of twice every x-mas season for 60 years playing the young Jacob Marley alongside Alastair Sim's Ebenezer Scrooge.  Mrs. Peel was all 'that'.  It worked.  Shame he died so young.
