Rod Black Leaving CTV and TSN

https://twitter.com/RodBlackTSN/status/1448651648868360212?t=9GTRMqUCiHhaiEHC-RWUWA&s=19

He's been such a fixture in Canadian broadcasting for decades, and so affable and knowledgeable he makes the incessant pace of covering major events look fun and easy. Hope he's not heading to the U.S. Hope whatever he does, we can continue to watch.

Thanks Rod Black, all the best.

Here’s a young Rod Black hosting Sports Sunday on CKY Winnipeg in 1986:

Rod Black was also the host who broke the first news of 9/11 on Canada AM:

Rod Black joined the guys today, Friday October 15th, on First Up, TSN 1050's morning show, and talked about his time at the station and maybe even what's ahead.

sidebar: I wish 640 and 1010 would do this, and post segments of guests and topic discussions on Twitter.

Re: Rod Black Leaving CTV and TSN

After listening to Rod on TO Mike's interview it's very clear it wasn't his decision to leave. It seems however that after the initial "we need to talk" discussion that they worked with him to make his departure as easy as possible. He's very clear that he's not retiring and could turn up at another broadcaster at some point.

A real class act, nothing but best wishes for Rod going forward.

Re: Rod Black Leaving CTV and TSN

It seems pretty clear this was a cost-cutting move, just like Michael Landsberg, Ben Mulroney, Lance Brown, Joe Tilly, Tom Brown and many others. As someone said, Bell is telling its highest-paid talent not to bank on ending their careers there.
But dumping Rod Black in the middle of the CFL season seems really odd.

TorontoMike dropped an interview with Jeff Hutchison on Thursday, he has a lot to say about CTV and cost-cutting. Also mentions the impending departure of Steve Murphy, who has been with ATV in the Maritimes for 40+ years.

Here's the Jeff Hutcheson episode, recorded last last week.
