You may not remember the name Tommy Kirk. But those of a certain vintage may recall him as one of the Hardy Boys in the original Mickey Mouse Club. He also starred in Disney's "The Shaggy Dog Story." But he may be best known as the kid in the classic tear jerker "Old Yeller." (As a longtime dog owner, I've never been able to watch this film, knowing how it ends.)

Kirk was 79 and led something of a sad life after his star faded. He was gay and that led to a long estrangement from his family.
