What The Major Parties Say About The CBC & Cdn. Media Payouts

I'm almost reluctant to post this, knowing how divisive any political topic can be. So I humbly ask that you use discretion in replying and to keep it civil.

But I thought this was an interesting precis on where all the major parties stand on the media, the CBC and the Internet. It's worth a read, regardless of who wins on Monday (or Tuesday or Wednesday or whenever the hell we finally find out who actually won.)

How the party platforms compare on future of CBC, media supports

Re: What The Major Parties Say About The CBC & Cdn. Media Payouts

Nice to read an article like the CBC posted on CBC.ca that is clear, simple and without bias.  Kept to the facts, and let's the reader decide. WOW, what a concept!!  A nice change from the misleading, agenda driven garbage written constantly in a couple of the Toronto daily newspapers regarding CBC, internet, and media.

We have read many times on these newspaper web sites, readers complaining after another misleading article how CBC never has anything critical of themselves or are just lap dogs to the current party in power.   Just scroll down after the article on CBC.ca and read the comments, look familiar?  That is fair game, and as it should be, since CBC is funded mostly by the taxpayer.  They should be scrutinized more than commercial media.  But please don't lie and drone on about how they never allow comments on their site critical of the CBC or the party in power.

Also interesting how the CBC was not a campaign issue and didn't catch on with other media or the public.  I only heard one reporter (not CBC) ask about defunding to Erin O'Toole.  Like their platform his answer was about a review of the role of CBC and that they shouldn't compete so much with the private broadcaster.  Odd how many newspaper articles critical of CBC always dwell on how poor their ratings are and the fact that supposedly nobody watches them.  So makes me wonder, where does this competition with the privates come in?  CBC doesn't bid on US programming, radio has no ads, their website has ads but also blows other media websites out of the water in terms of traffic.  And the website along with CBCNN is apparently self sufficient. Don't we need more domestic competition and not less to push for better media?

End of rant....
