Rolling Stone magazine: best songs of all time updated!

https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-lists/best-songs-of-all-time-1224767/

This list is:
a) a joke
b) an exercise in futility
c) both a and b and 😴

Should we even expect Rolling Stone to pull off a comprehensive list, or is it like trying to compare and rank the greatest hockey players from one generation to the next. (It always comes back to hockey, or Monty Python)

I'd like to know the real deal, the story behind this list.

Re: Rolling Stone magazine: best songs of all time updated!

The list is very clunky to read and there's too many ads on the page but at the very top you can click on 50 song increments. I have only randomly glanced at the list and have not looked at all the selections carefully.

I can understand why more pop and rap etc were added due to changing demos.

Some interesting selections by the Velvet Underground, Ramones, Joy Division, Modern Lovers and others and was thrilled to see the Kinks sublime Waterloo Sunset in the top 15.

I hate web pages that are cluttered with ads and take forever to load. Reminds me too much of the days of dial-up internet.

Re: Rolling Stone magazine: best songs of all time updated!

An interesting exercise but final-results input from too many people. A lot of wonderful hits but a bunch of
'out there' and 'MIA' stuff shows up.
Replace the 'spice' with solid monsters would add credibility (IMHO, quite possibly not yours). We could easily
come up with way more than 500 rock-solid entries. I don't think I saw anything by Chicago or solo McCartney,
for example.
Different strokes for different folks: I chuckled when scrolling down to She's Gone. When Hall & Oates released
the single the first time as virtual unknowns, at the time, it knocked me out, couldn't get enough of it. We added it
immediately at CFTR. Didn't take long to discover we were members of a very small club. Eventually, we had to
drop it because not many others wanted to play.
Fast forward from, what was it, late 1973/early '74 to the dying days of their first legit hit, Sara Smile, when the duo was searching for a follow-up and Bingo! They took another chance on She's Gone and as Mark Dailey more than once said, it was "Everywhere."
So, all these years later, the tune still brings a warm feeling to my tummy, and I'm ready to listen to it, again.
Album version, long cut. Thank you.

She's Gone and the album it came from ( Abandoned   Luncheonette) received a lot of airplay on CHUM FM and other progressive rock stations,  Hall and Oates were an FM act before they became a to 40 act.

This is another track from that album that was played on FM:

Try the Brave browser. It filters out all the ads. Unfortunately it didn't make the list any more credible.

An obligatory link to the Ultimate Argument Settler. This has more authority than RS.

I guess this is supposed to be a joke. I got as far as when the interviewer asked him to rate Television and he said he does nor know who they are. That's when I left. I was tempted to leave a bit earlier when he said Bowie and Neil Young rot because they have gone through too many changes and he was unfamiliar with most of Neil Young's catalog.

Wow .. is this political correctness, inclusivity, "everyone gets a ribbon" gone wild?

"Best of Lists" are a mugs game but this list is ludicrous.

#2 song of all time = Public Enemy: "Fight the Power" <-- No, just No, No again, how about No on endless repeat.  Silly me, I thought a song should have some music involved.

VINAY MENON pines a similar opinion:
BTS, Lil Nas X move in, Led Zeppelin move down: Rolling Stone’s top-song list is as weird as it is desperate.

What's a little ridiculous about a Top 500 chart, other than overhearing your young grandson or nephew bragging
that his gramps/uncle was a famous Top 500 radio jock, would be people quibbling whether a song should be
#378 or #377.
If you're going to pick a Top 500, finalize your list and print it alphabetically!

Further thought: Have you ever been asked to pick your all-time Top TEN? (1) It's impossible, and (2) you're
embarrassed by what you have to leave out.

Re: Rolling Stone magazine: best songs of all time updated!

Did anybody ever attempt to make a list of the WORST songs of all time?

There's always a couple of tunes that if they come on the radio I'm lunging for the dial to change the station as fast as humanly possible. If I had to play them during my show, the sound went right down to nothing until it was time for a mix or a break.

American Dream did suck. That's not me saying it that's science.
