No Jays Feed In Cottage Country? No Worries!

I'm up in Tobermory this week. (It's where Georgian Bay meets Lake Huron.)  I was disappointed not to be able to catch the Jays on their North Bay affiliate (CKAT 600 AM).  Just too far away.  Looking at the MLB app for the score, I noticed an audio feed option. $3.27 (per month + data) later, I was listening to a crystal clear Fan590 feed on my radio.  In fact, you can listen to the radio version of ANY MLB game for that price.  Now I am a happy camper!

Tobermory is a  lovely area.  We camped at Cyprus Lake - Tamarack many, many times.  'Course did the obligatory trip over to Flower Pot Island a couple of times as well .. *chuckles* my kid almost fell off the Zodiac on one of those trips!

590 the Fan (and almost all other non-Bell stations)  for free on Radioplayer

MLB does not allow internet broadcasting.  What signal of the Fan is available on Radioplayer?  The OTA signal or the internet one.

Now you're making me homesick. I lived most of my life up on the Bruce Peninsula. My wife cried when we had to leave and I felt like crying too. But I had a job offer in London I couldn't refuse.

Told my wife we'd go back up there after I retired. But now, I couldn't get her to give up city life.

Bristol, I don't believe Radioplayer gives you Jay's games. MLB has reserved the Internet rights for itself.

I don't understand.  Is there no internet service in Tobermory?  Why can't you just find a radio station that streams the game rather than worry about reception over the air?

MLB doesn't allow stations to stream the games.

So the stations can broadcast OTA but not stream?  That's greasy.

What about the simulcast broadcast that everyone hates?  Is that streamed?

That is correct.  MLB retains 100% of the rights to games that otherwise would have been on radio streams. Roger subs in other programming if you listen to 590 online during a Jays game. I'm staying at a cabin that's powered by propane and solar so no WIFI, no satellite -- just cellular data.  I was glad there was a solution though most of the games this week start at 10:00 p.m. -- doubt I'll last to the end. With the MLB audio choice, you get to choose from either the home or visitor's radio stream.

You realize that you have been able to stream games through MLB for at least 15 years, right?

Yeah, but I don't need to pay for it at home.  I've got Bell "Best".  My point was with no radio signal, in the middle of no where, $3 for the radio play by play on my phone was a steal.
