Week of July 24 1969

Listening to the Top Five on Roger Ashby's oldies show this morning had a wealth of cancon, with three of the top five.  Roger uses the CHUM chart for his show and here is the top five from this week in 1969.
5.  Motherlode- When I Die
4.  Spinning Wheel- Blood Sweat and Tears
3.  Sweet Caroline- Neil Diamond
2.  Baby I Love You- Andy Kim
1.  In the Year 2525- Zager and Evans

Meanwhile on Billboard this was the top five.
5.  What Does It Take (To Win Your Love)- Jr. Walker and the All Stars
4.  My Cherie Amour- Stevie Wonder
3.  Spinning Wheel- Blood Sweat and Tears
2.  Crystal Blue Persuasion- Tommy James and The Shondells
1.  In the Year 2525- Zager and Evans

Billboard had Andy Kim at #9 and rising.  Motherlode wouldn't see the Billboard chart until the week of August 9th and eventually would hit #18 the week of October 11th 1969. Neil Diamond's ever popular Sweet Caroline was #13 on Billboard.
CHUM had Stevie Wonder at #12 and rising, and Tommy James at #16 and falling.  Crystal Blue Persuasion peaked at #8 on the CHUM chart week of July 5th.  Jr. Walker was just out of the top five on CHUM coming in at #6 the week of July 26, 1969.

Re: Week of July 24 1969

I lived through that week and didn't even appreciate, at the time, how awful it was.

I started out with nothing and I still have most of it.

Motherlode was a London (Ontario) band.

“When I Die”, despite coming out in 1969, has a late 80s saxophone flavour to it.

I think the band "Ocean" (Put Your Hand In The Hand Of The Man) was from London too!
