Two AM's in eastern Canada applied to convert to the FM band

Two AM radio stations in eastern Canada applied to the CRTC to convert to the FM band on July 9, 2021:

•CBT 540 Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland and Labrador
•CKNB 950 Campbellton, New Brunswick

CBT on AM 540 Grand Falls-Windsor, NFLD can be heard as far away as the north Atlantic, England, parts of eastern North America, etc. during the nighttime hours. I know things change but yet another high powered 50,000 watt CBC AM transmitter may go if approved by the CRTC.

Broadcasting Notice of Consultation CRTC 2021-218 from July 9, 2021

Re: Two AM's in eastern Canada applied to convert to the FM band

I QSL d This CBC station from NL on 740 KHZ in 1974. It was around 5:00 AM our time. In those days, CBL in Toronto didn't sign on until 6:00 AM.

I was living up near Wiarton ON. I didn't even own a good radio then. It was a cheap Philips portable

CBNM is no longer on 740. They long ago flipped to 90.3 FM

I started out with nothing and I still have most of it.
