Buffalo's WNED-TV quietly changed its channel 17.2 subcarrier from World to "Create." What does that mean? The former offered a second chance to see shows like "Nova," "American Experience," "BBC News" and more. The newcomer has endless cooking shows, do-it-yourself hours, travelogues and others in that genre.
Too bad. I really liked the old one and really hate the new offering.
If memory serves, after the original switch to digital, WNED was offering both on 17.2 and 17.3. But for some reason, they dropped the third channel.
The current switch came without much fanfare on July 1st.

Does the pledge drive only happen on the regular Channel 17 (Rogers Cable 61, Toronto)
Or will this new channel also start asking viewers to donate?

I recall this as well... WNED 17.2 was an SD feed of the HD signal, and WNED 17.3 was split between the local "Think Bright" programming stream and "World". "Think Bright" was a local WNED inspired service. Goldie Gardner was heading up the creation and programming of "Think Bright" prior to her retirement from WNED 17 Buffalo.
Rochester's WXXI PBS outlet provides the main PBS HD service as well as "World" and "Create" on two sub channels. (WXXI is RF 16 / PSIP 21.1 PBS, PSIP 22.2 WORLD, and PSIP 22.3 CREATE).
