There's an old unwritten rule in radio that you never acknowledge the competition. But in 1982, it happened in the biggest market in the world - New York City. Just 16 days after WABC abandoned its famous Top 40 format for talk, WNEW-FM, then one of the biggest free form FM stations in the market, paid an almost two hour long tribute to its departed competitor, something that almost never happens.
Now a radio collector has rescued that moment and you can hear the entire thing online, complete with music and interviews, at the link below.
Pretty amazing and something I doubt would ever happen today. .

WHAT A FIND!!! Thank you, RA. What an amazing piece of Radio History. You're right. Don't think it would happen today. As I may have mentioned in the past WNEW-FM was the one American station I really wanted to work for. Oh, to be in the same halls with Scott Muni.
