They're playing a different kind of game at WHLD-AM, 1270 AM, flipping the format to a mostly right-wing talk format. Most, if not all of the programming, will be syndicated and I don't see anything local. Dan Bongino, who officially replaced Rush Limbaugh on many stations on Monday, is one of the shows in the afternoon. So is Ben Shapiro, another right of centre host and Jim Bohannon, just to name a few.
What was Sports 1270 carrying mostly CBS Radio Sports boasting a mighty 0.1 rating (you wonder how they hung on so long with those kinds of numbers!) is now Talk 1270. I guess the idea is to compete with WBEN, itself a conservative-oriented talk format. Good luck with that! (Does the market really need another right-wing talk station? I suppose the numbers will answer that question, but it can't be costing Cumulus much if everything is syndicated.)

The Buffalo News' Alan Pergament takes a look at the battle between the two stations and isn't impressed.

This isn't about ratings, but rather market-clearance for Cumulus' syndicated shows. Syndication is sold on "potential audience," meaning the population within the signal's metro. Much like with WFAS in 'NYC,' it's not far off from a scam.

In short, Cumulus is selling advertising to national clients on its own syndicated shows on local stations that it also owns. These advertisers are likely unaware that essentially nobody is actually listening. Over the past couple weeks, they've moved away from doing this on their CBS Sports brands, and towards their conservative-talk brands, likely to take advantage of the little bit of publicity their post-Limaugh lineup is getting.

They have returned to sports. It's what I hear right now anyway. And when you call the station office number to confirm 'nobody's home' to answer or leave a message with. What a business.

Whatever you heard doesn't seem like a format change. It sounds like they're still doing ultra-right wing talk, but I think they just had an afternoon game of some kind they were obligated to air.
The game, whatever it was, was followed by the Dan Bongino Show and then - what else? - Fox News radio at the top of the hour.
That plus their website still reflects the talk genre.
