Despite the government vowing to not bring in a so-called "Netflix tax," it now appears certain it will be just one reason you'll be paying more for your subscription to any U.S. service next year.
Using Netflix or Amazon Prime? Get ready to pay more, expert says

Will there be a sneaky across the board increase with all the streaming services, Bell's Crave etc.
Netflix is totally worth a few bucks more a month. I'd probably drop Amazon, but part of their content is free with the regular monthly fee for Amazon Prime.
Good thing CBC's Gem is "free", what an uninspired thing it is, constantly freezing in the middle of a show, and saying try again later. No thanks.

Meh?
Adding GST/HST to these services is just catch-up.
The tax is/was on movie rentals, theatre tickets, and cable bills, so it only makes sense.
Lowering taxes should be done through legislation, not through neglecting change.

Netflix, Amazon, Disney etc. charging sales tax is hardly a Netflix tax. It is something that should have been happening when they started to do business in Canada. Everyone talks about being treated equal, now these entertainment giants are.
