Amherst Island Radio frequency change approval (April 8, 2021)

Amherst Island Radio Broadcasting Inc. CJAI-FM which is currently operates at 92.1 FM in Stella near Kingston, Ontario received approval by the CRTC to move from 92.1 FM to 101.3 FM with significant power increase from 250 watts to 4,800 watts! 🙂 This would serve the entire Amherst Island,  Kingston, parts of Prince Edward County and surrounding areas but I wonder if it will be strong enough to block out WRMM 101.3 Rochester, NY across the lake? They plan to be  on 101.3 FM in 4-6 months. Hope it all works out well for the radio station and I wish them the best of luck!

Blocking out the American station is something the CRTC LOVES to do, so most likely, that's a yes.

Driving south on highway 115 from Peterborough I would be listening to101.5 the WOLF on from Peterborough until going down that steep incline just before Orono. WRMM would cause extensive interference making the WOLF unlistenable (much like the music on WRMM).

Biggest eye-roll ever.

First, the technical feasibility of a frequency is determined by Industry Canada, not the CRTC.

Secondly, there is no threat to any Canadian broadcaster posed by Warm 101.3

If anything, the biggest drawback from this may be that Kingston area listeners will lose access to the only way to hear the Jays' broadcasts, currently only available via 101.1 "Smiths Falls."

They got the power boost.

They got the frequency change.

What they don't have is the money.

As a result, the station has started a Go Fund Me page to try to raise $70,000 of the $200-grand it will cost for a new tower.

So far, they've raised just over $2,400 - much of it from a single listener, who pledged $1,000.
