It looks like 2017 refuses to leave without taking as many greats out with it as possible. Rose Marie, who played the Selma Diamond-like comedy writer Sally Rogers in the Dick van Dyke Show is gone. That leaves only van Dyke and Carl Reiner of the major adults from that classic still around.
If you made a list of the greatest comedies in TV history, The Dick van Dyke show would have to be somewhere in the Top 10. (I would also put M*A*S*H, Cheers, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Seinfeld, All In The Family, Taxi and The Honeymooners on that list, but it would be hard to keep it to only 10.)
Just last week, CBS showed two colourized versions of the old show and it did OK on a night when there wasn't much else on. Rose Marie played the kind of modern, independent and strong woman that wasn't on TV back then. She's also remembered as being in one of the original "Hollywood Squares" boxes. Having started in vaudeville, her career lasted an incredible nine decades.
She was 94.

She was a real hoot on her Twitter account, actively touring and promoting the documentary about her amazing body of work.
Betty White* better not leave us anytime soon. Same for John Cleese*, William Shatner*. I think the heroes we have as kids become even more precious to us in our middle, and late middle age.

Sorry to break it to you RadioActive but Carl Reiner kicked the bucket last year.

"kicked the bucket" is pretty harsh; "croaked" is politically-correct

Actually, on my part I DID clearly mark that this thread started in 2017, but the bump was regarding something from 2017 that was announced 4 years later. Therefore, it's a valid bump.

Thanks for your concern Fitz. I'm fine. But due to circumstances beyond my control, as they say, I was offline for several torturous days. Back on Monday night and glad to see everyone was behaving themselves in my absence! You know how your mother and I worry...
