This revamp of Canada's Broadcasting Act has some frightening stuff in it and it could soon come to pass if the feds have their way.
"...their fundamental proposition is stunning: that freedom of speech through video or audio should be in the hands of the CRTC — including Canadians’ freedom to use the internet to reach audiences and markets as they see fit."
The new Broadcasting Act is about speech control over the internet

If that's what the federal government wants, then maybe it's time to change the government.

Careful! If the law is passed, you may no longer be able to say that.
And that's the scary part.

A well respected corporate broadcast General Counsel that dealt with the CRTC claimed "regulators like to regulate and they will look for things to regulate"

Indeed.
I really do fear for the future. Our current proclivities toward political correctness and cancel culture are just the beginning.

Didn't our PM say he admired "China's basic dictatorship."

Back to the party that didn't make government officials available to the media and tried to set up a snitch line so we could report our neighbors to the Dear Leader?
Be wary of people who tell you what's in a bill without actually quoting from it. I've read it. I interpret it as broadcasters who put an over the air signal online will be subject to similar rules to the ones they already follow and the rest of us will be governed by the charter of rights. They're basically preempting Rogers and Bell from trying to get out of Canadian Content rules, closed captioning, descriptive video, diversity of voices, etc, after shutting off their transmitters and solely broadcasting online. He also said your use of social media will be regulated. The bill says it won't, twice, although it hints that social media companies themselves will be regulated, which we already knew was coming. But don't take my word for it.
