I note several references to the passing of Ted Randal on both FYIMusicNews.ca and Chuck McCoy's Facebook page
In case you're not familiar with the name, Randal was something of a broadcasting legend, having ties with stations in L.A., Winnipeg, Calgary, Montreal and most importantly for this board, Toronto. He worked extensively with 1050 CHUM during the J. Robert Wood days, and his advice also helped CHFI rise to the top in this market.
I never got the chance to work with him, but I've heard that one of the things he brought to 'FI in the 70s and 80s was an absolutely amazing collection of reel-to-reel tapes that contained almost every oldie you could ever imagine in perfect quality. The CFTR/CHFI library at 25 Adelaide St. E. was extensive back then, but even they didn't have everything. Whatever was missing could be found on those tapes! I wonder whatever became of them?
McCoy recalls it was Randal who recommended him to CHUM, and resulted in his legendary tenure at the then-Top 40 giant. I never met him, although I'd certainly heard about him. And he must have made quite an impression, as the names of those leaving condolences on McCoy's Facebook page will attest:
Bill Hayes
John Hinnen
CHUM veteran Paul Ski
Bob Saint
David Marsden
Don Shafer
Danny Kingsbury
Doug Thompson
Just to name a few

I met him briefly in 1974
He was "programming" a station where I was employed
He arrived & the slaughter began
I wonder if he owned Bell stocks ?
