Honouring Black History Month. A look at the artists & impact!

Jazz FM is doing a really good job of highlighting the influence that Black Jazz Artists had on the music/jazz scene, but also on history, especially in America during the tumultuous times in the 60's.

Host John Devenish is sharing vignettes daily this month featuring stories of pain, the struggle and triumph's many black artists had at the time. Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, and Nina Simone had major roles to play in the music and dealing with their own personal demons.

Plus, they are re-airing concerts by local black artists on Saturday's and Sunday's...featuring Grammy and Juno winner (Toronto's own) Larnell Lewis, then Joe Sealy, the late Archie Allyene (of Kollage fame) and Jackie Richardson to name a few, throughout February.

I share this because, I love the music and the history of it. This music is pretty special for sure and when you hear about Miles, Billie, Ella, Louis and Sarah...it can be fascinating to learn.

Here is more about this month's special tribute...
