Corus Entertainment was granted permission today to shut down 2 high power and 2 low power repeaters. Disappearing are:
-ch. 2 Bancroft [high power]
-ch. 23 Brighton [low power]
-ch. 27 Cobourg [high power]
-ch. 28 Prescott [low power]
Instead the signals that are going dark will be multiplexed on Global Kingston, Ottawa and Peterborough. The decision is here:

Yes, but as noted in the reply below, the coverage area should remain pretty much the same. Or at least, that's the plan.

People in Bancroft with average antennas will not be able to pull in CHEX or CKWS. The are not high powered enough. Maybe if the viewer was on a hill....

Now that this is going ahead, it brings up some interesting questions:
Channels 23 and 27 will be freed up in the GTA. Will they be taken up by other broadcasters?
What will happen to the 1000ft tower in Vennachar?

Is there a benefit to existing broadcasters to relocate to those now available channels?
