Why Cogeco Customers Could Soon Find Themselves Paying Rogers

Isn't there some sort of rule that U.S. firms can't acquire Canadian broadcasting outlets? Does the same rule apply to cable companies? I suppose it might be different if the Canadian assets are owned by someone here. Anyway, if you're a Cogeco cable customer, you may not be for much longer if this deal goes through.

U.S. cable company makes $10.3B bid for Cogeco, would sell Cdn. assets to Rogers

It's fine if they're immediately spun-off, as is the plan here.

This would also instantly give Rogers the top Anglophone and top Francophone radio station in Montreal.

The majority shareholders are rejecting the bid.

Rogers' last ditch efforts to acquire Cogeco are officially over. The deadline for the deal ran out on Wednesday, leaving the company to decide what to do with its shares in the Quebec cabler.

From Bloomberg:

"Ultimately, family legacy proved more important for Cogeco, said Bloomberg Intelligence analyst John Butler.  “If your whole life is wrapped up into a company that you built over the years, and it’s providing more than suitable compensation, why sell?”

Thank god. I had no interest in paying Rogers for anything.

I LOVE Rogers! I am so glad they raised my bill recently without going over what I'm willing to spend!
(How do they do that? lol)

There's still room for Rogers to raise my bill a few dollars more and I'll still be happy.
Just a few though Rogers...don't press your luck! lol
(they're gonna get me when my Smart Phone dies, no doubt! lol)
