Norm Crosby is a name some people here may remember. He was on TV all the time back in the 60s, 70s and 80s, taking part in Dean Martin roasts, Jerry Lewis telethons, appearing on talk shows and guesting as a panelist on various game shows. His gimmick was malaprops, deliberately misusing words in the wrong way for sometimes hilarious effect.
In the linked article, he tells about how he was working for a shoe company, of all places, when he started trying his hand at comedy. But it wasn't until he had a conversation with a club owner that he accidentally stumbled onto what would become his trademark gimmick. There were others who practiced this linguistic art, but no one I can think of did it better.
Crosby was 93.

Also hearing rumours that Alex Trebek may have lost his battle with cancer at 79. I want to confirm it first, but it's going around the interwebs.

Crosby was a co-host of the short lived "Everything Goes" on the Global Television Network when it originally signed on in 1974.... Mike Darrow was also a co-host.

No, that's not true at all. He was 80.
