Bell Media president Randy Lennox is stepping down as Canada's top broadcaster and streamer in 2021, parent BCE Inc. said on Monday.

Lennox, who joined Bell Media in 2015 to oversee the phone giant's TV, radio and digital assets, will leave the company on Jan 4, 2021. He will be replaced by Wade Oosterman, vice chair of Bell Canada, the country's largest telco player.

"On behalf of everyone at Bell, I would like to thank Randy for his leadership at Bell Media and his support of a smooth leadership transition in 2021," Mirko Bibic, who was named as president and CEO of BCE and Bell Canada in Jan. 2020, said in a statement. "Having also led our mobility and residential services teams in his 14 years at Bell, Wade is exceptionally well positioned to leverage all of Bell's assets to accelerate our leadership in media and TV," Bibic added.

Lennox was previously president and CEO of Universal Music Canada, launching the careers of homegrown pop stars like Justin Bieber, Drake and Shawn Mendes, before joining Bell Media.

After being promoted to Bell Media CEO in 2017, Lennox acquired a majority stake in Pinewood Toronto Studios, completed deals to put premium U.S. TV brands like HBO, Showtime and Starz under Bell Media's content umbrella via exclusive output deals, and joined ICM Partners and longtime client Howie Mandel in a consortium to acquire the Just for Laughs comedy group in Montreal.

Bell Media also runs Canada's CTV network, a stable of cable channels and the Crave TV streaming service. His exit from Bell Media comes as Hollywood studios and other international media giants have restructured and streamlined operations to better compete against Netflix in the streaming age.
