Leave the game alone.

This reduced baseball broadcast season has exposed us to an excessive glut of statistics by the play-by-play consortium that has boggled the mind of, and irritated, any true baseball fan.  It’s time to toss the calculator, ignore the numbers and let the game play out. The Jays said they had a plan for the wild card series that failed miserably. The Blue Jays’ analytical game plan didn’t work out. Their pitching, hitting, fielding was nowhere and they were arguably out-managed. This obsession with the accumulation of game stats has sterilized baseball and taken out the human instincts that make the sport so delightful at any level. We are now inundated with the need to know the speed of a baseball when hit or its angle when it left the bat. This is a game run as much by management operating calculators as by people who should be relying more about the game itself. The skill of game-time fundamental baseball managing is being usurped by machines, rearranging the traditional unfolding of nine innings of play. The unrelenting proliferation of data analytics broadcast in the game is overturning long-held baseball skill on how to spot stars and predict their performance. Toss aside the analysis, let the game play out and allow it to determine its strategy. Recording analytical information on the opposition to anticipate a win requires the future to unfold as desired, but seldom does.  Just use the mic for the action and leave the game alone let not the data ruin tradition.
