The Story Behind The Durham Radio Ransomware Attack

FYImusicnews.ca has the inside story behind that infamous ransomware attack that shut down The Durham Radio Group of stations earlier this summer, including CKDO and KX96.

It turns out it wasn't a hack - just one of those tainted emails Kim Komando always advises listeners to "just don't click." But the real revelation in the story, to me, is that the entire outfit never had a single back-up of any of its vital software and music. One thing's for sure - they won't let that happen again.

Re: The Story Behind The Durham Radio Ransomware Attack

Emailing clients for spots is pretty embarrassing.  You don't need a cloud backup.  Just do a timed backup once a week on the day you add your new music and store if off-site disconnected from the internet.  For spots, dump them to a USB each night so you don't lose any work between weekly backups.  It doesn't need to be complicated or or expensive.
