FYIMusicNews.ca notes that the final headline for the late Nils Johanson - aka Mark Elliot - has been written. More than a year after the radio host passed away, his grave is now finally marked by a tombstone, long delayed because of a lack of funds. The money was raised through a GoFundMe page, but the COVID crisis prevented the work from being done.
It's now in place, bringing a sad end to the story of a man who blazed quite a trail in his radio career, including a very public bout with drug addiction, quitting on air at the height of his Top 40 radio fame in Ottawa, and eventually becoming a rehab counsellor with his long running "People Helping People" show, which aired for years on a number of outlets here, including GNR 640 and CFRB.
Many famous radio names contributed to the cause, including Brian Thomas, Warren Cosford and John Mielke of Milkman Unlimited fame.
Johanson briefly contributed to SOWNY and passed away from pneumonia in Jan. 2019. He was only 65 and is very much missed.
