Sum, sum, summatime...what are your fave Summer songs?

So, I grew up in Ottawa, and spent some time during the summer in Montreal too...my radio influences were CFRA (and Ken Grant, Al Pascal, even Gene Valitis did news on CFRA way back when  and the late Mark Elliott worked there too)...plus CFGO too.

In Montreal it was Ralph Lockwood and Marc Mes Qui Denis on CKGM and of course when CHOM-FM hit the airwaves it was a whole new era!

Since summer arrives tomorrow, what were your top 5 fave summatime songs?

Here are mine, hard to narrow them down...but here goes...

1. Baker Street-Gerry Rafferty
2. In the Summer Time-Mungo Jerry
3. Patches- Clarence Carter
4. Roxanne- The Police
5. My Sharona tied with Drugs in my Pocket

You're turn Big Yella!

Have a good weekend and happy father's day to those celebrating!

The world would be so good if it weren't for some people...

Music To Watch Girls By - Bob Crewe Generation
Fun Fun Fun - Beachboys
Sausilito Summer Night - Diesel
Grazing In the Grass - Friends of Distinction
Everybody Loves Matilda - Duke Baxter

Enjoy the sunshine!!

Good job Muffaraw Joe, perfect way to kick off the summer of 2020. Let's hope the second half of the year is better than the first half.

I am going to include a few classic MOR summer songs that CFRB would have spun back in the day.   Hey, mom and dad liked summer too.  These songs make me think of hot summer days and nights...

The Girl from Ipanema- Stan Getz/Joano Gilberto
Mas Que Nada- Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66
Lazy Hazy Crazy Days of Summer- Nat King Cole
In the Summertime- Andy Williams
Beyond the Sea- Bobby Darin
School's Out- Alice Cooper
Wipe Out- Surfaris
Take it Easy- Eagles
Boys are Back in Town- Thin Lizzy
Born to Be Wild- Steppenwolf
The Israelites- Desmond Dekker & The Aces
Dance to the Music- Sly and the Family Stone (Anything by Sly makes me think of summer!)
Time Won't Let Me- The Outsiders

I remember General Grant. CJET in Smiths Falls had just started an afternoon Top Ten programme
My favourite summer song is We All Live For The Sun by The Sunrays.

But coming from the stodgy city of Ottawa as well, the summer of '66 we went camping in Pinery Provincial Park and my first exposure to the amazing sound of CKLW. What I remember most from that summer was not a Top Forty tune, but a Plymouth Barracuda commercial.... Baba-rara-cucu-dada

great white's better version of "once bitten twice shy".  cruised to this for hours along the strip in my home town.  original by Ian hunter

Anything by Tragically hip, Pursuit of Happiness, or Honeymoon Suite.

many years later my kids got me hooked on kid rock's "all summer long", which samples both sweet home alabama and werewolves in london.

Re: Sum, sum, summatime...what are your fave Summer songs?

Summer Breeze by Seals and Crofts
Summer in the City by The Lovin' Spoonful
Echo Beach by Martha and the Muffins
Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves
Summer Side of Life and Summertime Dream by Gordon Lightfoot
Nobody by Jerry Doucette (not a particularly summery song, but it resonates because I heard it on just about every radio station from Ontario to B.C. while on a cross country road trip during the summer of 1979)

Honourable mention (I don't think they got much airplay and likely weren't even released as singles)
Field Behind the Plow by Stan Rogers
Backstreets by Bruce Springsteen

If there was a "Best Song Lines" Hall of Fame, this would be there.
