Buffalo's Most Famous Disc Jockeys Have Became Legendary

A look back at some of the greatest names many of us grew up listening to across the border in Buffalo. Included are George "The Hound Dog" Lorenz, Joey Reynolds, Tommy Shannon, Jackson Armstrong, Shane Brother Shane and of course, the Screaming Italian, Dick Biondi.

From the Buffalo News:

"Biondi’s tenure in Buffalo ended in an early example of the power of a KB DJ. Angry after being yelled at by a station manager, Biondi casually mentioned on the air that if anyone sees his boss driving by in a gray Impala convertible, that they should throw rocks at him.

When one of those rocks when through the station manager’s windshield, Biondi was shown the door."

Generations of teens have loved Buffalo’s evening DJs

. . . those who weren't close to the border learned about Dick Biondi when they acquired the Cruisin' 1960 LP on which WKBW's Dick Biondi was the featured DJ voice

P.S. - whoever reportedly tossed a rock through the manager's windshield should have immediately been signed to the Buffalo Bisons; safety glass is tough & nearly impenetrable

A remarkably entertaining 45 minutes, as Joey Reynolds hosts a Zoom meeting with Danny Neaverth and Sandy Beach, all former KB jocks. With three rock radio vets getting together, the stories are amazing. Posted on May 11, 2020.

Around the 36 minute mark, there is a great story about former CKFH and CHUM jock John Rode, and how one owner in the U.S. kept firing him.

He wasn't an "evening" DJ, but arguably the most famous of all the Buffalo jocks was Rod Roddy, The Price is Right announcer from 1986 to 2003.
