Sinclair Broadcasting in the US has to pay the FCC $48 million for being "misleading and showing a lack of candor" regarding their attempt to buy Tribune Media. Sinclair eventually decided not to bother with the purchase of Tribune but it will still cost them a big fine from the FCC.
Suddenly the big bad CRTC doesn't look so bad does it?

In case you don't know who Sinclair is, they're a mega TV owner (including channels 29 and 49 in Buffalo) that became famous two years ago when someone put together a collage of the same editorial airing on all their stations - something they forced all their news teams to front whether they agreed with the policies expressed or not.
It created a huge stir at the time and was quite something to see.

"misleading and showing a lack of candor"
hhhmmm... these qualities could be applied to many of our broadcasting corporate overlords in this country...

Something about this is quite odd. From the article Sinclair Pres. and CEO Chris Ripley says he is "pleased with the resolution." He also said "we thank the FCC in their diligence in reaching this resolution." Huh?? Your company was just fined $48 million and you are pleased with the resolution?
In another article it reads like the $48 million fine was to close three open investigations on Sinclair Media by the FCC. Or could this be a payoff to leave the company alone.
Unless there is actual proof of anything like this happening here, don't see how this could apply to our broadcasting company overlords. Besides the CRTC does not fine TV and radio broadcast companies like the FCC does. $48 million fine for misleading and lack of candor, and Sinclair decided not to follow through with the application to buy Tribune? Sounds like there is a lot more going on here.
