Double dipping here (used a song from the other thread 70's favourites)

Everyone's a Winner- Bootsauce (cover of Hot Chocolate)
Tin Soldier- Streetheart (Small Faces)
The Letter- Joe Cocker or Arbors (Box Tops had the original, but in fact I like all three versions about equally, love the way they are all so different)

Does it count if someone covers their own song?

Freddy Fender's 1975 #1 "Wasted days and Wasted nights" was actually a cover of of a song he himself recorded back in 1959




But my personal favourite is a 2000 acapella cover of Syvia's Mother recorded by the vocalist on the original hit, Dennis Locorriere. 





Then there are songs like Little Darlin' and Popcorn whose covers were bigger hits than the originals.

I have never heard this one until I stumbled across it a few minutes ago while going down the rabbit hole of YouTube.  Somehow, it actually works.

It rarely happens, but perhaps the most famous instance of someone covering their own song may be Neil Sedaka, who hit #1 on Billboard with the original "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do" in 1962 and sent a much slower version right back up the charts to #8 in 1975.

Pretty amazing feat to score with it twice in such different forms.
