As far as I know, this hasn't really started in any Toronto newsrooms. But in Buffalo, one of the city's leading TV stations is placing almost all of its star newsroom staffers on rotating one-week "furloughs" as the COVID-19 disaster continues to bite into their bottom line. Management at all the company's outlets are also taking a pay cut during the crisis.
This kind of semi-layoff has been more often featured in radio in the past few weeks. It's the first time I've heard about it in the more visual medium. A sad sign of the times, I suppose, and it comes just when news is more important than ever.
