The Ultimate "Chill" Program

Right now on TVO is a really different program. A 4 hour boat ride up the Rideau Canal. No dialogue, some historical graphics, a few retro scenes  and beautiful scenery all the way from the St. Lawrence to Ottawa. Bill Brioux has a neat review of the show which repeats at 11 tonight and again on Easter Sunday. If you are longing to get outside, this might be the answer..Sit back turn down the lights and go on a beautiful cruise....

Re: The Ultimate "Chill" Program

Cool of TVO to air this. Certainly a nice change from all the COVID19 coverage these days.

If travel videos are your thing, there are plenty on YouTube including lots of complete train trips shot out of the front window of the train.  Here is short one (about 2 hours long) going through a mountain pass:

There are lots more that run upwards of 10 hours.

Enjoy.

Re: The Ultimate "Chill" Program

Tripping The Rideau Canal repeats tomorrow evening at 7pm on TVO.  The trip is in real time and takes 4 hours.  You will be travelling 27kms by boat. They do break up the photography somewhat so it is not always the same angle and they do include some explanation graphics and retro sections on certain areas of the canal.  No commentary other than the natural sounds and occasionally boaters talking, so some might find this a little confusing or boring.   Interesting how all of the locks are opened and closed by hand.

Work on the canal started in 1827 and completed in 1832, and was one of the defenses built after the war of 1812  to help protect Upper and Lower Canada in the case of another attack from the US from New York State.  The canal would be used to help keep the trade flowing between Kingston and Montreal if the American troops tried to block the St.Lawrence, and give an alternate route for trade between the cities.

The show was produced last September so it is how the canal and area looks right now.  Anyway a perfect  relaxing cruise in real time to shoo away the COVID blues..
