Coronavirus Last Straw For 60-Year-Old Cdn. Newspaper

It isn't The Toronto Star or even the Sun. But it's been around a very long time.

Until today.

In its Friday edition, @12:36 notes that the Canadian Jewish News, a paper that's served that community for over 60 years, has been forced to close down. In an emotional final editorial, the publisher noted that the industry was already in a state of decay. But the loss of ad revenue, exacerbated by the current crisis, caused the printing presses to finally stop.

"The CJN suffered from a pre-existing condition," it reads, "and has been felled by COVID-19."

Another sign, if you needed one, about the perilous nature of the printed paper in this Internet world.

To our readers: Everything has its season. It is time.

(Sad as this is, I have to admit I laughed out loud when I got to the end of this statement. An automatically generated attached phrase at the bottom says, in big bold letters, SHARE & ENJOY! Maybe they could have deleted that part...)
