A radio station just for littlies?

Everything old is new again...
(Via Daily Telegraph)

It’S commercial radio, but not as you or your children know it.

In a world of shock-jocks and lewd tunes, Australia’s newest radio station has a completely different tone.

Digital station Kinderling, the brainchild of a group of Sydney parents, is promoting itself as Australia’s first radio station aimed specifically at children aged six and under.

Founder Evan Kaldor described the content as “everything from The Wiggles to The White Stripes, and Justine Clarke to Johnny Cash”.

“It’s very much G-rated radio,” he said. “We personally read the lyrics of every song that is played to make sure there is no offensive language or double entendres.”

Mr Kaldor, a father-of-two and former general manager of independent Sydney radio station FBI, said each day’s programming followed the typical rhythms and habits of a young child.

That meant happy, bouncy music in the mornings, calming tracks during the evening “witching hour” when kids tended to go feral, and ambient music overnight to help with sleep.

A live, one-hour talkback and conversation show for parents airs weekdays from noon to coincide with a child’s daytime nap.

Mr Kaldor said that while most kids already accessed child-friendly programming on television and online, radio had a different, untapped potential.

“Most of us (the team behind the station) have kids and we were interested in the ability to use radio as a way to spark creativity,” he said.

“Everybody has screens in their household. We’re not saying don’t use them, but we’re giving them another alternative.”

The station is available on digital radio or via online streaming at kinderling.com.au.

Re: A radio station just for littlies?

When our 3-year-old grandson visits, we only have FM 106.5 Voices radio turned on

As a direct result, the lad is a civil, well-balanced individual, unlike his grandfather

Re: A radio station just for littlies?

This reminded me of an old production:

In 1977, Texas-based TM Productions put together an album as a calling card to promote their cutting-edge production services. To grab the attention of program directors, they created an original "drama," set in the year 1983. The story centers on struggling K9 Kiddie Radio as it prepares to launch a format change to Punk Country.
