Sad for GNR 640, which I actually enjoy. Out-rated by ICI Musique! Yikes!

Indie 88 with a nice little lead over The Edge in this demographic. They have been sneaking up on CFNY over the past few years. And TSN 1050 getting closer to Sportsnet 590. Do you have any information on morning ratings Aaron, or anything you can share?

Thanks Aaron, very quick. You are a blur of fingers on the keyboard! Were these morning numbers the same 25-54 demo?

This may be a stupid question but I'll ask it anyway - do the numbers for AM 740 include just their AM signal or is that combined with their downtown FM repeater at 96.7? If it's the former and not the latter, that could affect their rating, which to me seems very low.
Still, I'm not sure how many in the specified demo would actually tune in to such a format. I suspect they place a lot higher when older listeners are in the mix - the ones advertisers don't care about as much, but who tend to have more disposable income.

RA if you go to the Numeris site they show the ratings for 12+ and you will notice that CFZM also has a + beside the call letters and this is indicating the inclusion of additional numbers for the station, and this would be the FM frequency.
CFZM+ has a 2.0 share in the central market of total hours tuned to total encoded radio. All of the terms and numbers are explained at the bottom of the ratings. Looks like they have daily cume of 102,000 and the vast majority would be 55+.

We tend to tune in for specific programs, particularly:
- Libby Znaimer's 12 - 1:00 weekday bitch sessions,
- Face the Music 2 - 3:00 Thursdays & Fridays,
- Saturday 9:00 a.m. gardening + 10:00 a.m. Redinger & Gelmon automotive, and
- Gene Stevens Vintage Favorites Sundays 2 - 4:00.
Last but not least, we miss Brian Peroff terribly. 0
Our disposable income seems to be disposed of by the time the next Old Age Pension cheque arrives

That's my bad....in an effort to make it readable, I shortened a lot of names and cut off the 96.7. That number includes AM, FM, and online.

Sort of a surprise how CBC Radio One in Toronto would be first with males 18-34 and a 14.4 share. One would think it would be Indie 88, The Edge, maybe Q or Sports radio.

I have often wondered whether some small part of CBC's dominance in the morning is because there are never any commercials. As important as spots are to a station's financial well-being, they do tend to be a huge tune-out. At least for me.
Also, because they're taxpayer funded, the CBC has far more producers working on a single show than any other morning program in the city can ever hope to afford. Having produced several talk shows over the years - mostly just by myself and the host - I can tell you the extra manpower can make a huge difference to the on-air product.
Do you think the CBC would still be the morning ratings powerhouse it is if it were given the same resources as private radio has? As long as it has its fingers in taxpayers' wallets, we may never know. But it's interesting to speculate.

The big morning shows like Moore in the Morning and CHUM FM, CHFI, 680 News, AM 640, Q and a few others do have some good resources and budgets - Producer, Writers, Operators, News, Traffic, Entertainment and Sports reporters etc. so it isn't just the host and the board operator/producer. Commercials a turn off? That's debatable, a lot of morning shows like Newstalk 1010 have really cut back on commercial minutes in the morning. Wasn't 1010 commercial free 8-9am for a time last year? Oakley in the afternoon often goes 20 minutes with no commercials whether by design or not, so I can't see the commercials being that big of a turn off, at least in the drive periods on the other talk stations.
I wasn't talking so much about the mornings but rather that the 18-34 male demographic was so strong for Radio One. And I believe this isn't the first time they have been robust in this demo. Having said that I just had lunch with a friend who always has been totally into music, satellite radio, concerts and he is not in the radio business.
He told me that his kids like listening to local radio in London when in the car or mornings. He normally listens to satellite or streams music but he did say he enjoys CBC radio one. I almost fell off my chair! He said he likes their newscasts, Q, The Current and Laugh Out Loud, and a few other comedy shows on the weekends. Never in a thousand years would I peg him as a CBC radio listener. He said he also listens a little to CBC Music. My friend is about 47 so he isn't in that 18-34 group, but in the even more important, for commercial radio, 25-54. He said he found the local London morning shows had too much needless talk and constant laughing which was a turn off and the fact they didn't play that much music. But again his kids seemed to not be bothered by any of that.

The thing to remember is that PPM measures exposure, not preference. So while the stations you mentioned would be higher in preference, that's a demo that's often exposed to or hearing stations they wouldn't pick. Hence CHFI's Christmas music doing incredibly well with males 18-34.
As for CBC, they get a massive amount of hours tuned from their P1s; those who listen often listen all day, and listen to nothing else. That's true in all demos. In male 18-34 CUME, they're 12th. The music stations you mentioned are all ahead. Not sports though...younger demos are not listening to sports radio at all.
