Re: GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN - 2019

Thanks, Dale, for the exhaustive list.  It's always one of those reads that sparks memories.  I read one name and was particularly surprised.

Richard Byrne died April 5.  He, indeed, was the founder of Mediacomp.  Before that, he was the overnight guy at CKKW in Kitchener.  He also worked in Kirkland Lake.

(I was one of his computer programmers.  I wrote the newsroom software (R-NEWS) as well as the digital audio software. I was also involved in the traffic software.)

It was a very pioneering time on a shoestring budget.  Getting passable audio through a  (late 80's, early 90s) coax network was a challenge.  The concept of "startup" wasn't a thing so financing was always tenuous.

Byrne was actually quite a visionary.  He was particularly adept at user interfaces.  He was designed GUI before windows.

Although we haven't stayed in touch since I left, I'm sad to read about him.

Thanks again Dale

Thanks Peter. I always miss a few names. Broadcast Dialogue is a great source for this. It's just radio people, though next year I might expand it to include TV.

Dale, I want to chime in with my appreciation for you putting the list together. It can't be easy.

Thanks Tim. I keep a running list all year then check back near the end.

Re: GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN - 2019

Thanks from me, too, Dale. I didn't know Mrs Waters had died.

Re: GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN - 2019

Thanks from me also for the list. I am saddend to read that Ron Pumphrey has passed. I board oped for his call in  show at Q93 in St Johns Nfld during a short stint there late 1976 into 77. He was a colourfull fellow and there was rarely a broadcast where there wasn't an off air call threatening bodyily harm against him. Ron was indeed one of the people I missed after leaving the rock for a new gig in Charlottetown PEI.
