Carleton University held the Peter Stursberg Foreign Correspondent's Lecture last Saturday at the War Museum in Ottawa, guest speaker was Adrienne Arsenault, in the article/media release I am about to share, she brings up some key points about the state of Journalism in Canada, where it's headed, the changes happening, budget cuts that are affecting the "quality" of news we get and it is a thoughtful read.
But, it also deals with how journalists handle conflict and hot spots that exist around the world...
If you have 5 minutes and want to read this, it is worthwhile as we head into a new year soon and will no doubt see the media industry change even more..
Feel free to comment too!
Here is the link to the release. Please enjoy the views share in it...

I really like Adrienne, she communicates very clearly her writing is excellent. I always think a good test for a newsperson is when they are forced to ad-lib. Some news people are not very good at this and it shows.
She was one of the anchors of the CBC coverage of the Raptors parade in Toronto. Completely thrown out of her element, speaking about basketball and a parade for hours. She was excellent, did her research about the players and she spoke a lot about Toronto (her hometown) and also it showed that she has a good sense of humour. As you might recall, the parade took hours longer than what was planned because of the crowd size. I just remember Adrienne handling everything like a pro and she came across like she was really enjoying the whole day.
When you have reported in most of the troubled spots in the world and witnessed the worst of the worst, I guess handling something like the Raptors victory parade would have been a nice change. But it would still be a challenge when this is something that is totally different to what you normally do.
That would have been a great seminar and talk to attend. And the fact that it was held at the National War Museum was reason enough to buy a ticket.
