Say goodbye to Gail Vaz-Oxlade, Joe Warmington, Bill Hayes and Taggart & Torrens - at least in their current time slots. After next week, they're be clocking out of Newstalk 1010's The Late Shift. The shows, which aired from 10 PM- 12 midnight Monday through Thursday, are being replaced as of a week Sunday by Globe and Mail columnist David Eddie.
Eddie already had a Sunday night show, and recently picked up a few hours on Friday when the Geeks & Beats crew stopped producing weekly podcasts. But somebody up there likes him because he will now be heard every night except Friday and Saturday, with an expanded 10 PM -2 AM slot. It's the first time in years 'RB has had any regularly scheduled live local programming after midnight on weekdays.
Eddie is married to City TV reporter and weekend news anchor Pam Seatle, and I always get a kick out of the fact they're on opposite each other on Sunday nights, albeit chasing entirely different audiences. That plus the fact he talks about her and their marriage endlessly on air, likely knowing she can't hear any of it.
No word yet on what's airing on the station Friday evenings or whether the other hosts will turn up with their own shows somewhere else.

Am I reading about a new way for Bell to do things cheaper? Or simply a ratings issue, where it it believed that Eddie really will bring in better ratings?

Great move. Oakley and Jim Richards worked 10a-2p - it's a great place to develop your story telling. Nice to see an investment in that daypart.

Rumor has it that Frank D'Angelo will have a time slot.
Well, it's a night shift, and he IS the Sicilian Vampyre...
Is he going to have an all female staff ??
