WOODSTOCK 50 OFFICIALLY CANCELED

Re: WOODSTOCK 50 OFFICIALLY CANCELED

This thing was a disaster from the day it started, moving from New York to Maryland at one point. How is holding it in a different state marking its anniversary? Then they decided to make it a free event, without any assurances any artists would actually show up after most of them cancelled. Sometimes it's best to leave the past in the past.

Now where did I put that brown acid????

See the entire original Woodstock program here.

Meh. The last vestiges of Woodstock's cultural value were expelled twenty years ago. All that's left is the fraud and grift.

Re: WOODSTOCK 50 OFFICIALLY CANCELED

For those who want to experience the real thing as it happened, PBS' American Experience is showing "Woodstock: Three Days That Defined A Generation," on Tuesday, August 6th. It airs at 9 PM on WNED here, with repeat showings at 1 AM Thursday and again at 4:30 PM on Saturday the 10th.

"Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the concert that became a touchstone for a generation. The film brings the three-day concert to life through the voices of those who were present at what became the defining moment of the counterculture revolution."-WNED website.

According to TV columnist Bill Brioux, this isn't just a rehash of the music. "This fascinating PBS documentary is no acid flashback. It tells the incredible story behind the festival. The event seemed doomed after the town council at the original site banned crowds larger than 5,000 people. That left the ragtag band behind the fest six weeks to find another field."

Just a reminder that this doc airs Tuesday night on Channel 17. It's not the usual rehash on the groups that played there. It's more about how the organizers held the concert together against unbelievable and impossible odds when a show meant for 50,000 turned into a massive event for an unexpected 400,000+ attendees.
