I'm sure others will be publishing this Canadian Press story, but since I don't have a subscription to the Globe and Mail, here's the headline they just put out a few minutes ago as of this posting and what little I've been able to glean from it.
Rogers Cutting Off Air Jobs At Sportsnet
The company hasn't yet said how many are affected and in typical corporate speak, they call it "repositioning for the future."
After the McCown drama last week, this seems inevitable. I'm sure there is more to come.

Here we go in freebie form, although frankly, there isn't much more new there than what you read above.
Rogers Media cuts off-air jobs at Sportsnet in a 'repositioning' for the future
[Edit: This was predicted in a Toronto Sports Media post last week, in a link made here by SOWNY member Media Observer.)]

No word yet, however I've read that his contract comes up for renewal this summer.

I hear July 1 ( free agent day) is his last day.

I like his insights, but given what's happening at SN I'm not optimistic. On the other hand I would be happy to see John Shannon gone.

Purely a guess, but maybe they'll borrow bodies from Fan 590?

McCown posted on Twitter today, that another of his American PTS guests has been axed. Don Banks was a regular contributor for almost 2 decades. Bob Ryan was also let go earlier and Doug MacLean's SN contract has not been renewed.
On the "bright" side (sarcasm,) Jeff Blair now has athletes and Mike Wilner (never when Bob hosted) on the show.

Mea Culpa: Sorry cash, I didn't realize you had put this up on a separate post.

At this rate, why doesn't Rogers just make an exit from Television all together. Sell SN to CBC and let City TV and Omni also be someone else's problem?
I bet CBC would love to own SN. At one point 11 years ago they were trying to get their own sports station up and running:

Not a problem. 👍

there's a rumor going around that rogers is in a real mess staff wise... ever since they got carried away and fired their hr department.

That would involve CBC taking on the terrible Rogers/NHL deal - and that's bad politics from both the left and right. There's a reason they lost it in the first place.
