Streaming TV is about to get very expensive – here's why

Re: Streaming TV is about to get very expensive – here's why

There's a simple solution.  Move around between the services.  There's no need to have more than one or two at a time with the volume of content on each one.  Go away for 3 or 4 months and there will be lots of new content when you come back.

That's a good short run quick fix.
What you will most likely see happening somewhere in the (near?) future is deep discounting when paying for several months, if not a full year in advance with various services.

I also believe someone will buy out someone down the road, reducing choice, but also increasing what you get with ONE specific service. Price at that point for a specific service? Who knows??

If a buyout does not happen, then I also believe someone will sell combo cards.
A Netflix card is already available for purchase. Soon, maybe a disposable card with Netflix & Others will pay for all those services in one bulk price. (one that costs a lot less than paying for each service separately)

People can also illegally file download and share by obtaining a VPN (for anonymity) account and a Bittorrent client, total monthly cost $4.   Watch for this to increase as the streaming packages become more fragmented with consumers needing multiple packages to view a few shows.    Here's a bad case: Recently with IndyCar racing coverage.  10 of 17 races are available on NBC OTA while 7 are on Sportsnet Now-plus (including the Toronto Indy!).  SN+ is $200 / year or $28 / month.   So, consumers are expected to fork over $200 for 7 races.   Sportsnet Now-plus' other offerings aren't related to motorsport, mainly consisting of foreign soccer and rugby matches.   IndyCar and Rogers basically shot themselves in the foot, putting their content on a over priced package that most motorsport fans have little interest in.

Is there anything that shows the greed of Rogers and Bell more than the price of the streams of their sports channels?  They get 2 bucks per subscriber on cable. So rather than doubling or tripling their money they charge more than ten times the amount.

Well, here is my setup..
Antenna, dual bay.. one to Buffalo, one to the CN Tower.. CFTO reception is iffy
Amazon Prime.  We use it a lot to buy stuff anyway.  Also now includes e-books
Netflix.. 4 TV setup for UHD
Nvidia Shields with Mobdro, CBC Gem, CTV and Kodi Installed
Nord VPN.. $33 USD per year
DAZN for a couple of months a year for NFL before the networks carry all games.
