Treasure Trove Of Classic Hit Music Masters Lost In Huge Fire

It's taken a long time to come to light, but what was apparently lost in a big blaze in Florida is simply irreplaceable, including master recordings by Ray Charles, Elton John, Chuck Berry, Aretha Franklin, Louis Armstrong, Nirvana and more.

All tolled, an estimated 500,000 original recordings are gone. Very sad and we didn't find out about it for years.

Curious. I wonder what was lost in the film stock.

Even more interesting was this excerpt:

"Jody Rosen, the writer of the article, described the successful effort to play down the scope of the loss as a “triumph of crisis management” that involved officials working for Universal Music Group on both coasts."

It speaks to the level of media infiltration the PR industry enjoys that this was a noteworthy news take.

The New York Times has published the entire list of some 700+ artists whose work was destroyed in that fire. It is a devastating punch-to-the-gut kind of roster no one wants to be on.

You have to scroll down to the bottom to see the entire thing, but it's a bitter testament to just how much irreplaceable music was taken by the flames.
