RB's Jerry Agar: Marathon Man?

The James Forcillo verdict was a big story for the city, and all the talk and news stations were on it all day long. But few had the day that RB's Jerry Agar did. He was on the air at 5 AM Monday, subbing for Robert Turner on the ultra early morning shift. He also appeared on the usual Round Table during the morning show and then went on the air with his own 9-12 program. And after that, he never turned his mic off.

Once the verdict broke, he remained during Bullard's effort, stayed on Jim Richards show, did the 4 pm Live Drive and as of this posting was still yakking about the case with Blatchford. By my calculations, that's roughly 13 hours, given even an hour's prep time between 8 and 9 AM.

I've worked some long hours, (the day of 9/11 comes to mind) but I can't quite remember anyone being on air non-stop with no real relief for that many hours on local radio - especially when you consider he never sits down during his show.

Good for him.  But what was he saying?  Did he agree with the verdict?

Re: RB's Jerry Agar: Marathon Man?

I kind of chuckled when he came on with John Moore this morning at 8:45 a.m. to plug his show.

Moore talked about Agar's  13 hour long day on the air and Agar said words to the effect that "people must have  thought they were listening to CFR-Gerry..."

That should've been C-F-Agar-B

Re: RB's Jerry Agar: Marathon Man?

What was the point of having Jerry on from 9a til the late evening?

Did he co-host with Bullard, Richards, Doyle, and DiGiulio, or go solo? Either way, what was the reasoning behind that?

Would that not be an insult to the other hosts, who have all had experience covering important issues?

Re: RB's Jerry Agar: Marathon Man?

IIRC, it was a full team coverage sort of thing. As I understand it, he was only supposed to sub for Ryan Doyle on The Live Drive that day. How he got roped into the 5 AM show, I'm not sure. Either way, that's a long day. But when the Forcillo thing broke on his show, he just stayed behind the mic and never left. John Moore was on until late in the afternoon, as well, even though the morning shift was well over.

I think it was just a confluence of events with a breaking story and some missing pieces at the station. Unlike one poster on another board, I'm no Agar "fan boy," as he infers. Some days, I like his show. Other days, I'm with Stafford - or some other stations. I just thought it was an unusual situation where a guy accidentally winds up working a 13-hour shift, I actually find it odd that RB would leave itself so short handed that day. It's not likely to happy again in the Toronto market.

Re: RB's Jerry Agar: Marathon Man?

Perhaps Jody Thornton or someone can clarify but I have a hunch that several Newstalk1010 staffers i.e. John Moore and Christie Blatchford have "on air" studio quality set ups in their homes.

Am I dreaming that one or I am I correct ??
