Ikea Canada is launching their own version of Google home.
"Unlike regular smart home speakers, which have previously been either donut or vase-shaped, IKEA is integrating their new speakers into furniture."

Not to get all Ann Cavoukian, but there's a huge opportunity for a company that makes smart speakers to step up, address and fix the real, valid concerns people still have about privacy invasion.
Both Newstalk 1010 and GNR am 640 continue to cover stories about the tech companies eavesdropping using their smart speakers whenever they damn well please...(shudder)
I don't know the percentage of the public that is not going to invest in any kind of smart speaker until this situation is resolved, but it must be fairly substantial.
SYMFONISK is the name Ikea will be using, a more accurate moniker: SPYYE

First, there is no such thing as privacy as soon as you expose yourself to the internet. You think a smart speaker has security concerns. Use a smart phone? You have no idea.
Even better, wait for 5 G to make your life interesting. Having a foreign government having a back door to your network is only a small concern there. 5 G makes the internet of everything possible and you may have to be concerned about your fridge spying on you.

Many people are making a killing selling something to restore the privacy.
Heck, even the IPTV resellers are getting in on the action by trying to sell everyone a VPN whether they need it or not!
