Viewer Alert: “Twilight Zone” Remake Airing On Free TV In Canada

There are a ton of new shows being made for streaming services in the U.S. and most of them are either restricted to those entities or get shown on Canadian cable stations (like "Star Trek: Discovery" on Space.)

It’s rare when any of those most widely anticipated programs ends up on broadcast TV in this country, but one of the most potentially interesting will be debuting on City TV this coming Thursday. The new Jordan Peele-created version of the classic “Twilight Zone,” which will “air” on CBS All Access down south, starts with two back-to-back episodes at 9 and 10 PM here, before settling into a once-a-week schedule seven days later.

This iconic show has been remade three times before with varying degrees of success. But because of Peele’s involvement and the fact this one originates on a streaming service – presumably allowing a lot more latitude in plots and dialogue – there’s a lot more hopes placed on this do-over.

Will it work? You can set your DVR and find out for yourself this Thursday or check out a preview here.

Re: Viewer Alert: “Twilight Zone” Remake Airing On Free TV In Canada

Wow, the critics are absolutely savaging the remake, which debuted on CBS All Access in the U.S. on Monday.

The Hollywood Reporter calls it a "limp mess that lacks ...surprises, scariness, originality and pacing."

Variety opines, "It’s a mismatch of talents that, in the four episodes provided to critics, falls short of justifying its presence on air in 2019 as anything but flavorless homage to what had worked previously."

Ouch!

(Note the reviews may contain spoilers, so avoid them if you don't want to know episode details.)
