The linked article isn't all that compelling, but the aircheck attached to it is. It's a rare vintage listen to classic early 70s campus radio in the U.S., before FM grabbed hold of everything. It's from KUSC, the University of Southern California, which was already a big part of the youth movement of the 60s.

It has the requisite low talking, soft voiced, laid back, rarely interrupting announcer-type, but what's really interesting about the check is the music, which has been left intact in its entirety. It's a fascinating flashback to what once was, a freeform radio station playing everything from Smokey Robinson and The Miracles to The Mothers Of Invention.

If you sit through the whole thing, you might just glimpse a few lava lamps and smell a few joints being passed around. Whatever you think of it, it was definitely a very different era.
